I remember giggling as a child when my grandmother couldn’t keep up with the days of the week, unaware of the seriousness of her memory lapse. Eventually, even to a child, the gravity of her situation became clear. After a slow deterioration, my grandmother died of Alzheimer’s. I’m now watching a friend, as sharp as anyone I know, suffer from this disease in her early 50’s. Further alarmed by statistics that indicate dramatic rises in Alzheimer’s cases, I became committed to help. In the effort to increase the awareness of Alzheimer’s and support research for a cure, Path to Greatness encouraged volunteers to step up and participate in the Prince George’s County Walk to End Alzheimer’s in October. This was our first time joining the Walk, but will not be our last.
I felt helpless, as a child, to help my grandmother. I feel helpless to cure my friend. On the other hand, Path to Greatness volunteers and donors taking action at least one day a year to do “something” to fight this vicious disease is empowering.
Join us in 2016! All you have to do is walk to show your support. Donations to the cause are welcomed. 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Prince George’s County Saturday, September 24, 2016
