We Had a Wonderful Time Providing Meals for Neighbors!

People go hungry everyday right here in our community.

We’re pulling together resources to provide hot meals for our neighbors. Our first Meals for Neighbors effort was in a gang ravaged area of Langely Park where unemployment is high and the need for meals is great. Several groups joined together to make this feeding event a reality. Dancing in Silence Center, led by Tai Chi instructor Janet Thomas, provided roast chicken, bottled water, the materials necessary for feeding and 30 energetic volunteers. The Prince George’s County Police Department provided the space for the event at their Cop Center located near the intersection of University Blvd and New Hampshire Ave in Prince George’s County. Officers spread the word about the event to residents in need within the community. Over a dozen officers volunteered and provided security for the event. HHM (Hersha Hospitality Management) donated, prepared and delivered the vegetables for the nutritious meal including green beans and corn. They also provided rolls to accompany the meals. At least twenty young men from various Hearts & Homes for Youth programs came out to volunteer. They helped to spread the word of the food distribution, serve food and clean up after the event. Path to Greatness organized the event. P2G volunteers, including our full Youth Committee and several Advisory Board members pitched in for the collaborative effort.

At the end of the gorgeous Saturday, over 500 meals were distributed to serve an area of our community in need of healthy meals. Seventy five volunteers of every age, corner of the community and walk of life worked together to pull off a great event without a hitch.

Path to Greatness will continue to provide Meals for Neighbors. Our next event will coincide with a Community Day at Shepherd’s Cove Shelter, feeding 500 in the Capitol Heights community. We are also planning another encore event with the PGPD and Dancing in Silence Center that will feed 500 and provide Back to School supplies for families in need.
