Designated by President Obama as a day of service, MLK Day is a way to transform Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems. On this day, Americans of every age and background celebrate Dr. King through service projects that strengthen communities.

Path to Greatness is all about service every day, but on Monday, January 18th 2016 we shared our commitment to service with the honoring of Martin Luther King, Jr. encouraging everyone to join in to experience the joys of giving to our neighbors in need. And they did! Over 75 volunteers of every age and walk of life came together to assemble, prepare and distribute:

  • 108 blanket & non-perishable food packages
  • 53 hot roast chicken dinners
  • 200 slices of hot pizza
  • 150 roasted hot dogs
  • 100 Care Packages for Neighbors
  • 100 warm pairs of gloves
  • 50 warm hats
  • 300 soft drinks
  • 125 thermals
  • 25 sets of pajamas
  • 25 packs of underwear

The residents of Federal City Shelter at 2nd and D Sts NW, Washington, DC enjoyed the show of love, while the amazing team of volunteers who came out enjoyed the thrill of service in a show of civil action that would make Dr. King proud.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who came out to make the day special!
