I got into this work envisioning moments like the one that I experienced at our MLK Day of Service event, where hundreds of people of all ages and every walk of life volunteered together to serve our neighbors most in need. The responses from volunteers at the event and in the several weeks since have strengthened my commitment to bring this type of volunteer experience to many, many more.
Volunteers worked together to assemble over 100 care packages and prepped 70 coats, placing flashlights and messages of love into each pocket. Then, the distribution of items began. Volunteers hit the streets to deliver the 70 Empowerment coats that convert to sleeping bags, 100+ care packages, 5 Harvest Baskets full of food for struggling families and 20 coats for kids throughout the D.C./Baltimore region.
King would be proud.
And more creative, fun, volunteer events that bring people together to make a difference are coming.
